Communication - A family that eats, sleeps, prays together, stays together.

-Jaeger Dwayne Tamaray
Tamaray family is known to have close bonds amongst its family members. It has been a fact since the grandfather of my father decided to trace our family line and gather all the contacts and gather them into one place. Since then, it has been a tradition that all Tamaray families must gather at least once in a while to keep in touch with their relatives. Up until now, there is an extremely unique chance that you do not know your history when you are a Tamaray.
In our home, people always eat together during dinner. It is a must since the eating table is the only place where all of our family members can see each other face to face the whole day and catch up with each other. This practice has been helpful to at least keep a contact amongst the members. Before, me and my siblings used to sleep in one room and that is the reason why we are tightly bonded. We used to always play, do our assignments, clean our room, and sleep together. But since we moved to our new house, which gave us a chance to have our own rooms, that tight bond slowly disappears. My two siblings are now at war with each other. Before, they used to be best buddies, inseparable, sometimes, but now, they wouldn’t even bother looking at each other.
Since I am away from our home, the trust that my parents had for me before, now vanished. Before, they used to always believe that I would make the right decision about what is the best for any situation, but now, every move I make is very suspicious of doubtful or them.
Our relationship with our parents on the other hand is still just like before, though they care a little less compared to how they used to care before. Maybe, this is because we do not often sleep together in one room like we used to before.
Still, our family goes to religious activities together like the “Visita Iglesia” and goes to Church together. But the fact that all of us does not spend time with each other anymore, still is the main issue. Especially me, since I study in Baguio.
Even if you do not do all these things anymore, one major item to a close family is a stable communication and this is a must. It is a must because it is the only way to know everything about the family and deal with the problems that your family faces together. According to Rick Peterson, an Extension Specialist and Assistant Professor, in his research, “Effective communication is an important characteristic of strong, healthy families. Research identifies communication as an essential building block of strong marital, parent-child, and sibling relationships.” For me, this is true because communication is the only way for both me and my parents to know how we are doing and this s the only way to express how we see the state of our family.
